Rural Australian Artist

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” – Thomas Merton

“Don’t think about making art, just get it done. Let everyone else decide if it’s good or bad, whether they love it or hate it. While they are deciding, make even more art.”

– Andy Warhol

Her surroundings and changing seasons are a constant source of inspiration.

Rural based artist Tillia Hardie has been exploring a range of mediums and techniques for the past several years. Tillia is predominantly a self-taught artist with a strong passion for farm life. Growing up on a sheep and cropping property in the southern Riverina, she now lives with her husband and family on a mixed farming enterprise, which is where much of her inspiration is drawn from.

Tillia is always experimenting with materials and enjoys exploring the unexpected through her use of colour and technique. For Tillia, this use of colour, layering and texture to spark joy, memories and emotions. The simple everyday tasks and aspects of country life are at the forefront of her work.

“If you hear a voice within you say, ‘You cannot paint,’ then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced”

— Vincent Van Gogh
